Your safety matters before, during, and after every Timeleft dinner. This article explains how chat moderation works, how to report a message, and what happens when someone is reported or banned.
What content is automatically filtered
Every message sent in a group chat or one-to-one chat is checked by Timeleft’s safety systems.
Harmful content such as spam, slurs, scams, or other inappropriate messages - may be intercepted before it reaches the chat. Depending on the content, a message may:
- Be automatically masked.
- Be prevented from being posted.
- Be flagged for review by Timeleft’s Trust and Safety team.
These protections apply to all messages, including those sent after your dinner.
How to report a message
You can report a message directly from the chat:
- Press and hold the message.
- Tap Report.
- Confirm your report.
You do not need to select a reason or complete a form.
Reporting a profile works differently. When reporting a person’s profile, you may be asked to select a reason, such as:
- Inappropriate content
- Scams or fraud
- Rude or abusive behaviour
- Hate speech
- Illegal content in the European Union
Is reporting anonymous?
Yes, as the other person is not told that you reported them.
They will not:
- Receive a report notification.
- See your name as the person who submitted the report.
- Be shown the details of your report.
Reporting someone also automatically blocks them. They may notice the effects of the block: for example, your connection and one-to-one conversation will disappear - but Timeleft will not tell them that a report was made.
What happens immediately after you report
As soon as you report a message:
- The person is removed from your connections.
- Your one-to-one chat with them disappears.
- They can no longer contact you through that conversation.
- You will not be seated together at a future Timeleft event.
Messages they previously posted in a group chat will remain visible. They may also continue participating in the group chat unless Timeleft decides to ban their account.
Timeleft’s Trust and Safety team may review the report and take further action when necessary.
What happens if someone gets banned before dinner?
When someone is banned, they are:
- Removed from all group chats and member lists.
- Disconnected from all existing connections.
- Removed from one-to-one chats.
- Prevented from accessing their account.
Their messages are also removed from the relevant chats.
The person receives an automated email about the ban. If they try to log in or create another account using the same email address or phone number, they will see a banned-account screen with an option to appeal. The specific reason for the ban is not displayed to them.
Whether an empty dinner seat is filled after a ban depends on operational availability. Timeleft cannot guarantee that the table will be backfilled.
Harassment on group chat post-dinner: are protections still active?
Yes. Timeleft’s safety protections remain active after the dinner.
Group chats stay open so participants can continue their conversations, but moderation does not switch off. Automated filters continue checking every message, and you can still report or block someone in the same way.
These protections also apply to one-to-one chats created through mutual connections.
